TOCKHOLM—Almost a year ago Swedish telecom operator TeliaSonera AB launched the world's first super-fast mobile Internet service, and now rivals are beginning to enter a Nordic market that is a pioneer in fourth generation, or 4G, Long Term Evolution technology.

Two weeks ago, TeliaSonera's Swedish rival Tele2 AB, together with Norway's Telenor ASA, kicked off the launch of their own Swedish 4G LTE network, with speeds of up to 80 megabits per second—10 times faster than existing networks—plastering downtown Stockholm with ads for the new service in their push to win a share of the market for high-speed mobile data.

The Nordic region, with its relatively low population density, may seem an unlikely frontier for the very latest in mobile technology, but customers there tend to be early adopters and, as Tele2 Sweden Chief Executive Niclas Palmstierna says, the region is home to two global leaders in the mobile field: Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson, the world's largest network equipment vendor, and Nokia Corp., the largest mobile-phone maker. This fertile ground has also attracted external players who want to test the emerging 4G market. In a blow to Ericsson in its own back yard, Huawei Technologies Co. of China last year won the contract to provide infrastructure for Tele2's and Telenor's new network.

The Nordic region has become a test site for 4G technology that is slowly spreading to bigger markets—Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. cellular operator—a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Ltd.—launched its first commercial 4G service in the U.S. Sunday.

As data-hungry smartphones become more widely available and demand for tablets like Apple Inc.'s iPad increases, customers have become accustomed to fast fixed-line broadband and increasingly want the same experience while on the move.

Offering a faster, more reliable service than rivals is what differentiates mobile operators fighting for market share and profit. Other regions are following: in the U.S., MetroPCS Communications Inc. launched 4G services in a handful of cities, including Las Vegas and San Francisco, in the autumn, while Sprint Nextel Corp. also offers 4G in a number of regions. Verizon aims for U.S.-wide coverage by 2013.

In Asia, Telstra Corp. subsidiary CSL Ltd. launched a combined 3G/LTE network in Hong Kong on Nov. 25, the first in the region. NTT DoCoMo Inc., Japan's biggest mobile operator, said this month that it is on track to offer a new data communication service using LTE on Dec. 24.

The market right now is limited to 4G dongles used with laptops and netbooks, as 4G-enabled smartphones and tablets aren't available yet, and Sweden offers an early insight into how the technology performs.

Tele2, which in 2008 paid 500 million Swedish kronor ($73.5 million) for a 4G license, hopes to provide 4G coverage for 99% of Sweden's population by 2012, competing with incumbent TeliaSonera on price.

A number of technical advancements help make 4G networks faster. Data is sent and received using IP, or Internet Protocol-based technology.

That data-centric focus is in contrast to 3G networks that have to handle various kinds of voice and data traffic simultaneously, making them slower and less efficient. 4G networks also have fewer network nodes, which means fewer transmission delays. And, when radio waves travel from a base station to mobile devices, the Long Term Evolution radio technology used in 4G networks makes more efficient use of available spectrum, further boosting speed.

Still, despite impressive performance , few consumers have so far paid the 599 Swedish kronor ($86) a month that TeliaSonera charges for a 4G subscription. The operator, which in the third quarter had close to 160 million customers world-wide , has so far only sold a couple of thousand 4G subscriptions , according to its head of Mobility Services, Hakan Dahlstrom.

In the U.S., Verizon plans to offer subscriptions starting at $50 a month, though with a slower service than TeliaSonera's due to spectrum considerations .

Consumer adoption has been slow in part due to a shortage of 4G-compatible laptop modems, but also because TeliaSonera so far has only rolled out the service in 11 Swedish cities, Mr. Dahlstrom says, with the aim of covering 228 cities by the end of next year.

There are other hurdles to overcome before the market can really take off; 4G networks will need additional spectrum as coverage grows, and as governments free up new frequencies in coming auctions, these could turn out to be costly in markets where several rival operators bid for licenses, leaving less money to buy equipment for the new networks.

As an indication of the value of spectrum, in the summer Germany auctioned off 4G spectrum for the first time, netting a total of €4.38 billion ($5.87 billion) for the government. Network costs in terms of equipment and software are also significant; network gear maker Nokia Siemens Networks in July won an eight-year, $7 billion contract to deploy and maintain a mobile broadband network in the U.S. for newly formed telecom venture LightSquared.

U.K. communications regulator Ofcom expects its 4G auction to take place some time in the first quarter of 2012 with frequencies released by the end of the following year. Spain is expected to authorize auctions by year-end that free up additional 4G spectrum in 2011.

Still, even if the operators get the 4G spectrum they need, the real money won't start flowing in until consumers get a good supply of 4G-connected tablets and smartphones, says Bengt Nordstrom, chief executive at telecom consultancy Northstream.

"Right now it's only about investments," Mr. Nordstrom says. "When the technology gets more mature around 2012 or 2013, you may start to see revenue as well."

The first 4G tablets and smartphones could reach the market next year, Dalhstrom says, adding that TeliaSonera is discussing this issue with a number of mobile handset vendors.

Don’t worry if you get stuck with an odd job that might not totally dovetail with your life goals, though. Lots of wildly successful celebrities have had some strange jobs before hitting it big. Here are just a few quirky vocations held by some of your favorite celebs:

1. Orlando Bloom’s first job was working at a skeet shooting range as a clay pigeon trapper when he was just 13.

2. Beyonce Knowles’ mother owned a salon when the future pop star was growing up, so the aspiring singer picked up some extra cash by sweeping up hair.

Forget about plugging your iPod or BlackBerry into a power source ever again, for now you can charge these devices just by waving your hand, or stretching your arm, and even by taking a walk.
Scientists at Georgia have now come up with a new technology, called "nanogenerator", that converts mechanical energy from body movements or even the flow of blood in the body into electric energy.
And this electric energy can be used to power a broad range of electronic devices without using batteries.
"This research will have a major impact on defense technology, environmental monitoring, biomedical sciences and even personal electronics," said lead researcher Zhong Lin Wang, Regents' Professor, School of Material Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The new "nanogenerator" could have countless applications, among them a way to run electronic devices used by the military when troops are far in the field.

The researchers have described how it's possible to harvest energy from the environment by converting low-frequency vibrations, like simple body movements, the beating of the heart or movement of the wind, into electricity, using zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires that conduct the electricity.

The ZnO nanowires are piezoelectric - they generate an electric current when subjected to mechanical stress. The diameter and length of the wire are 1/5,000th and 1/25th the diameter of a human hair.

The process of generating energy from movement made the researchers to conclude that it was most effective to develop a method that worked at low frequencies and was based on flexible materials. The ZnO nanowires met these requirements.

Also, Wang said that a real advantage of the technology was that the nanowires could be grown easily on a wide variety of surfaces, like metals, ceramics, polymers, clothing and even tents. And the nanogenerators could operate in the air or in liquids once properly packaged.

"Quite simply, this technology can be used to generate energy under any circumstances as long as there is movement," said Wang.

The nanogenerator would be particularly critical to troops in the field, where they are far from energy sources and need to use sensors or communication devices.

Wang also said that having a sensor, which doesn't need batteries, could be extremely useful to the military and police sampling air for potential bioterrorism attacks in the United States.

Although biosensors have been miniaturized and can be implanted under the skin, he points out that such devices still require batteries, and the new nanogenerator would offer much more flexibility.

A major advantage of the new technology is that many nanogenerators can produce electricity continuously and simultaneously.

The study was presented at the American Chemical Society's 237th National Meeting.

President Barack Obama's plea Tuesday for patience in the economic turmoil fits with the view of most economists that a turnaround will take some time. It doesn't fit quite so neatly with his bullish budget.

The president's spending plans and deficit projections rest on the assumption that the economy will post solid growth next year after a mild, further decline this year. Many economists think that's too rosy.

Obama was more cautious than that in his prime-time news conference — possibly to the point of having it both ways.

A look at some of his statements and how they square with the facts:

THE CLAIM: "We will recover from this recession. But it will take time, it will take patience, and it will take an understanding that when we all work together, when each of us looks beyond our own short-term interests to the wider set of obligations we have to each other, that's when we succeed."

THE FACTS: No one really knows when the recession will end. But Obama's own budget forecasts the recession will continue through this year but with a relatively shallow 1.2 percent decline in the gross domestic product.

Then, the budget predicts solid 3.2 percent growth for 2010, followed by three years of more than 4 percent growth each year.

Christina Romer, head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said this week she was "incredibly confident" the U.S. economy will recover within a year.

Congressional Republicans and some Democratic budget hawks have suggested the Obama budget projections are unduly optimistic to make the math to pay for the president's programs work. The higher the GDP growth, the more tax revenues come in.

Meanwhile, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office last week predicted that the Obama budget would produce deficits averaging nearly $1 trillion over the next decade.

OBAMA: "In this budget, we have made the tough choices necessary to cut our deficit in half by the end of my first term even under the most pessimistic estimates."

THE FACTS: Not all credible estimates foresee a deficit halved in that time.

Obama's budget forecast a deficit of $530 billion by the end of 2013. That would cut by half the deficit he inherited at the start of his term. To succeed, Obama is counting on a recovered economy, a tax boost for the rich and success in easing foreign entanglements. But his assertion that he can accomplish that "even under the most pessimistic estimates" flies in the face of an answer he gave moments later.

The Congressional Budget Office forecasts that Obama's spending plan would leave a deficit of $672 billion by the end of 2013. Explaining the differences between his projections and CBO's, Obama said his administration projects a higher growth rate.

THE CLAIM: "Our assumptions are perfectly consistent with what blue-chip forecasters out there are saying."

THE FACTS: The Obama administration's economic growth projections are more optimistic over the next five years than those of the Blue Chip Consensus, a monthly average of 50 economic forecasts from the private sector.

The Blue Chip projection is for a deeper contraction this year than is foreseen by the administration — 1.9 percent versus 1.2 percent. Then it foresees growth of only 2.1 percent next year, instead of 3.2 percent, and less than 3 percent in each of the next three years, when the administration's forecasts are for 4 percent or better.

After 2015, the blue chip forecast is a little brighter than the administration's.

THE CLAIM: Obama repeated his assertion that his housing bailout will help "stabilize the housing market and help responsible homeowners stay in their homes."

THE FACTS: Even officials in his administration, many supporters of the plan in Congress and the Federal Reserve chairman have said some of the bailout money is bound to go to those who acted irresponsibly.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has said it's important for the nation to go ahead with the plan even though it means assistance will go to some who should have known better than to get in over their heads.

Sheila Bair, head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., made a similar point when she said it's "simply impractical" to examine every delinquent loan and weed out those taken by people who overstated their income or assets to get a mortgage they couldn't afford.

THE CLAIM: Responding to Republican critics in Congress who say his proposed budget carries an irresponsible deficit, Obama said, "I suspect that some of those Republican critics have a short memory, because, as I recall, I'm inheriting a $1.3 trillion deficit, annual deficit, from them."

FACT: Obama inherited a whopper of a deficit, much of it due to policies and spending led by Republican President George W. Bush. But the Congress, which authorizes spending and is not blameless in driving up deficits, was controlled by Democrats in the last two years of Bush's presidency.

Compiled by Whatsmypass.com, the list features passwords most commonly used by Internet users.

And topping the list of the most common password is 123456, followed by "password" in second place.

Other popular password choices were first names, repeated letters and numbers, pop-culture references.

Even batman, bond007 and cocacola made it to the list, reports the Courier Mail.

The website said that almost one out of nine people use at least one of the passwords mentioned on the list, and one out of every 50 people use one from the top 20.

The projections are based on the assumption that fertility that is now around 2.56 children per woman is going to decline to about 2.02 children per woman in the world," she added.

Zlotnik said if fertility remained about where it is now, then world population would reach 10.5 billion by 2050. If fertility fell even more than expected, to about 1.5, then the population would only increase to eight billion by mid-century, she said.

Population growth will remain concentrated in the most populous countries through 2050.

In sharp contrast, the populations of 45 countries or regions are expected to decline at least 10 per cent over the same period, including Japan, Italy and many other countries that were once part of the Soviet Union, the UN said.

According to the study, the largest number of migrants will head to the United States - an estimated 1.1 million every year between 2010 and 2050.

The immigrants and the US birth rate will help boost the US population from an estimated 314.7 million in mid-2009 to 403.9 million in 2050, according to Gerhard Heilig, chief of the UN's Population Estimates and Projections Section.

New Mushroom

A new fungus species, above, was discovered on the campus of Imperial College, London in 2007-growing right under the noses of some of the world's leading academics.

The new mushroom is one of the top ten new species in 2007, announced by the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) in May 2008.

Large Hadron Collider

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is being built in a circular tunnel 27 km in circumference. The tunnel is buried around 50 to 175 m. underground. It straddles the Swiss and French borders on the outskirts of Geneva.

It planned to circulate the first beams 10th September 2008. First collisions at high energy are expected about a month later with the first results from the experiments soon after.

The LHC is designed to collide two counter rotating beams of protons or heavy ions. Proton-proton collisions are foreseen at an energy of 7 TeV per beam.

The beams move around the LHC ring inside a continuous vacuum guided by magnets.
The magnets are superconducting and are cooled by a huge cryogenics system. The cables conduct current without resistance in their superconducting state.
The beams will be stored at high energy for hours. During this time collisions take place inside the four main LHC experiments.

Trekking thru TOP SLIP Forest

Here is my experience of trekking thru TOP SLIP forest, Tamil Nadu. Tamil movie Suriyan was shooted here. This one of the exotic experience, we had during kerala trip ;). There we had a chance to see wild elephants, deers, cervine, gazelles, lion faced monkey, langur, buffalo, lots & lots of blood sucking LEECHES, Centipede, poisons frogs, wild hogs, green tree snake and many varieties of fishes. Then we had a awesome dinner at Tamil Nadu Forest Department Canteen. One of the best canteen food I had, which is under Tamil Nadu Government control.

Today is our college's farewell day, this is the 1st time in my student, I felt the pain of friendship. Till now, none of my friends made me realise that I'm going to lose them. I may done many mistakes and there may many misunderstandings with my friends during my graduation period. But, today I really feel for it and today I realise that I missed many great moment in my college. I know, this 3 year in my life wont come back ! This 3 years is the most memorable days in my life till I die. This 3 year has shown me everything to the peak joyfulness and the depth of sadness. :-(

I dont want to lose any of friend anymore. But this 3 year gone just like 3 days. I feel like yesterday is the 1ST DAY in COLLEGE. When I enter into class, the whole class when slient for a moment, still feel the moments. But at the same time, a spark has to be ignited to make metamorphosis wheel rotate from the STUDENT to PROFESSIONAL :-). To make myself stand on my own earnings.

I really wants to open my heart on the mistakes I made during these days and wants to apologies to one and all. Really wants to salute my staffs, who tolerated me during my mistakes.

I wish all my friends stays with me forever :-(

Now, tears in my EYES, pain in my HEART and I feel like my THROAT is choking. :-(
